Classic Cars

Five Most Popular Classic Cars
Classic cars are a part of American culture, especially when you go with a domestic model that got its start in this country. These cars have withstood the test of time and continue to strut their stuff on the roadways today. You can find classics from all makes and models, but some are considered cooler than others. To find a classic car that will get noticed on the road, check out these five favorites. We also have a few shopping tips to help you find the best classic car for you.
1. The Ford Mustang
This car is cool all over, whether you opt for the convertible model or the fastback that is rapidly gaining popularity. The years to shop for in this classic car are generally 1965 and 1966, but you can also find some desirable selections in the 1995 Cobra and the 1965 GT. Cherry red with a white interior is the ideal style, but sexy black is another popular color.
2. The Chevrolet Chevelle
This muscle car is particularly popular in the 1968 Pro Street that was designed shorter and sportier. This car is all about power with a massive big-block engine and plenty of horsepower to boast about. Because this car is still in great demand, it can be easy to get a lemon if you are not careful. If you are in the market for a Chevelle, proceed with caution to ensure that you get your money's worth.
3. The Chevrolet Impala
Chevy is the car manufacturer with some of the best classic car potential, and the Impala is another example of that. The SS from 1962 is a brilliant combination of class and muscle, with the convertibles adding a sporting flair. If you go with this model, make sure you choose a car with hydraulic rams since this vehicle tends to run a little too low to the ground without them.
4. The VW Beetle
No, this car is not domestic, but the huge number of them on American roads would suggest otherwise. Did anyone else play the road trip game where you counted the number of beetles that you find on the road? Today, this model is still just as popular, with used cars getting snatched up almost as fast as the originals. The late sixty and early seventy models are in the highest demand, with the convertibles weighing in as a popular choice.
5. The Chevrolet Camaro
There are few things sexier than a Chevrolet Camaro, no matter what year model you choose. However, the designs from the late sixties are some of the most popular, with speed, handling and looks all taken into consideration. The popularity of the model has made it a bit hit or miss in the resale arena, so proceed with caution if you are in the market for one of these.
Classic cars are a fun way to drive with vintage style, and many of these models are still hot on the market today. Check out the resales in your area to find the classic car of your dreams.

QUESTION:
Classic Cars........?
I am trying to learn about classic cars like mustangs, gran torinos, and pontiac firebirds. does anyone know some good books or websites that have info on more than just a few different types of cars?-
ANSWER:
Here's a good site that has high level info on a broad range of muscle cars. It's a great starting place for you.http://www.muscle-car-dynamics.com/index.html
Once you have a list of muscle cars that you want to narrow down on, go to www.wikipedia.com and type in the name of the car. The wiki has tons of specific information and links to more sites.
I agree with the previous answer also, be sure to check out local muscle car shows. The people there will enjoy talking to you about their muscle car, and any other muscle car that you have questions about. Reading can't take the place of seeing the cars in person and learning about them first hand.
Have fun researching!

QUESTION:
What Classic Cars are cheap and cheap to insure?
I'm coming up to a point in my life when I need to buy a car. (16 years old UK). I want to get a classic car like a classic VW Beetle or an Austin Mini, something with real character and not a typical first car like a Peugeot 106. Have you any suggestions on some cheap cars to insure and ones that you can buy the car for less than about £600-700 used?
Thanks.-
ANSWER:
An old mini is about all, you can't take your test till you are 17, even then its going to be at least £2000 to insure anything.

QUESTION:
What will happen to classic cars in the age of peak oil and automated cars?
Will legends like the 1959 Cadillac finally be cast from the road? They can take my classic cars from my dead body. I'll never drive a new car again. They are terrible, ugly monstrosities that are for the most part lifeless.-
ANSWER:
They have already started to take them, and if it comes to your dead body, then it will be. (more likely your poor brutally beaten still alive body sitting in a county jail as they crush your car and then you'll have to spend the check they give you, that will be far less than the value of the car, on paying charges for being arrested.) These hero's of the past won't live forever. Eventually we will have to progress, eventually fuel will be near impossible to come by for them. Cleaner electric cars like the EV1 will come along, and propaganda won't be able to kill them to many more times, so many false numbers were crunched trying to convince people that they would pollute more with the coal power plants that a normal car would on gas, which was wrong then, and is even more wrong now, as generating electricity is getting cleaner by the day. As soon as charging takes less than an hour for the 300+ range electric cars, they will make a come back. And the electric car will out do your hero's in the quarter mile with ease. It is sad, as I myself am a fan of older cars, and hope to restore several in my lifetime. But as far as being practical, its a lost cause. Frankly I wish we could be completely free from oil in the middle east. WHat would they do then if they couldn't sell it? Better learn to eat it i guess.

QUESTION:
How to learn about classic cars?
I love, love, love classic cars. That is partly because I like vintage things and partly because they are sooooo beautiful. I've experienced some trouble because nobody around me knows anything about classic cars to answer all the questions I have, so I've decided to learn about it myself. If anyone knows of any websites or books I can check out so that I can learn more about my favorite cars I would appreciate it. Thanks for any help you can give.-
ANSWER:
A great website to visit is www.oldride.com. They have an extensive directory of all things classic car related. There are classifieds, a library full of information regarding individual makes and models, and event directory (in case you did want to visit some local car shows and pick the owners brain), and they also have a question and answers forum. There are a ton of great books out there, too many to list here. One thing you could try is visiting your local library and find a book there that interests you. Have fun and enjoy.
